Gemious Ltd Q & A

Warning: Gumigem necklace - children & babies must only interact with necklace when worn by an adult due to long cord and risk of strangulation. This is not a toy.

It is safe for baby to handle and chomp on while the ADULT wears it. Babies love to do this, while sitting on your knee or breastfeeding. They are washable too! Plus, they come with a handy Breakaway clasp for added comfort and safety of the adult wearer. Please ensure your clasp is in good working order.

Necklaces are not toys and therefore are required to meet the general product saftey standards, however as we recognise these will be gummed by babies, we have had them tested for toxicity and small parts to the European, Amercian and Australian & Newzealand standards.

Bangles are suitable from birth without supervision, people love the bangles as they can wear them, meaning they don't have to remember to pack a teething toy, but can hand it to their baby when they are fussy!

Bangles - suitable as unsupervised teething toys from birth and carry the CE Mark, they are also CPSIA compliant and tested to Australian & New Zealand standards AS/NZS ISO 8124 - 1: 2010+A1:2011, 8129-2:2009 & 8124 - 3:2003

Children with sensory issues:

We often get asked if this jewellery is ok for children perhaps with a sensory processing disorder that have a need to chew, please visit our sister site www.chewigem.co.uk for more information.

Is it safe?

Yes. The silicone we use is lead, latex, BPA, PVC & phtalate free, they are totally non toxic and so are the cords. Silicone is ideal for this as its odourless, tasteless and will not support the growth of bacteria or mould.

Our Necklace Jewellery is intended for an adult to wear and children must only have access to it when worn by an adult
The parts are suitable for handling and chomping
There is a risk of strangulation if you were to leave your child unattended with a necklace
Bangles are safe to be left unattended with a child

Our test reports and safety certificates are available on request. We pass the necessary sections of EN71 part 1 for toxicity and complete regular testing on our products.

Will my baby break the jewellery?

Our jewellery is hard wearing and will not tear and break off, any indents will usually pop back out within 24 hours...(although the silicone is not entirely immune from damage). We recommend checking your jewellery regularly for signs of damage and discard if any damage is present.

Will it mean my baby will think it's ok to play on any jewellery?

Well, let's be honest until the little nippers can take instruction, they'll do that anyway! Many mums will just stop wearing jewellery for this reason, but now you can. As soon as they are old enough, you can encourage them to not chomp, and go back to wearing other necklaces, unless of course you still love your GUMIGEM ®.
